Castle Makes First Kickstart Appointment

George Newton taken on under the Kickstart Scheme

George Newton is among the first people in the UK to take up a placement in the scaffolding industry created through the Kickstart Scheme.

The 17-year-old has been appointed by Castle Scaffolding (Wales) and has already been taken under the wing of Yard Manager Josh Davies.

Jason Evans, Director at Castle Scaffolding, said: “We’re delighted to have George on board. He lives five minutes away from our yard, which works well for his commute as he doesn’t drive yet!

“He’s been fully kitted with boots, hi viz clothing and a helmet and given Josh as a mentor to learn from. So far he’s shown to be very enthusiastic and keen to learn.”

Castle Scaffolding has committed to take three new starters through the Kickstart Scheme and hopes to make further appointments soon.

More than 50 NASC members will give work placements to more than 300 young people across the UK.

Henry Annafi, NASC Training Officer, said: “We’re really pleased that placements are beginning to be made. It’s great to see young, new recruits start to take up positions with NASC members. We’re hoping many of these are taking their first steps on long and successful careers in the scaffolding industry.”
