The salary range is vast and can be anything from £36,000 to £94,000.
Project management qualifications (e.g. Prince 2) can be useful as can Bachelor’s Degrees in Business, Finance, Management and/or Economics. However, there is no substitute for experience and lots of Operations Directors have progressed in to the role from being Charge Hands or Scaffolding Operatives.
Role: A key strategic role that involves supporting the Managing Director in respect of business strategy, planning and new business development. They are responsible for operational efficiency, managing costs, driving up profitability and delivering a quality service to clients.
Key skills: Organised, analytical, excellent communication skills, strategic thinking, strong negotiating, problem solving and leadership skills. Basic computer knowledge in programs like Microsoft is essential and some employers may require experience with industry specific programs.
